Tumble Tots (Ages 2-3) AASRT - Age Appropriate Sports Readiness Training!
"Toddlers can keep us so busy that we might think they will always be physically fit. But doctors say that toddlers who get used to an inactive life style are at risk for obesity later in life. According to the U.S. Surgeon General, daily physical activity is the key to being fit." -Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Early Learning Project
Creative Movement:
Class begins with fun & frolic. We may use beach balls one week and a parachute the next. We are encouraging the children to move their bodies, throw, roll, hop, skip, run, tip-toe, walk backwards & develop confidence in their ability to control their bodies.
Kid Stretch:
A few moments spent doing 3-4 mat positions that instill in your growing child the importance of flexibility & stretching muscles prior to physical activity. Toddlers favorite is "Ms. Puffy".
Gymnastics:
We teach the children foundational tumbling skills; through creative play the students mimic the teacher & perform the kitty, doggy, crab, frog & snake. We work on rolls, gripping, hanging and swinging on the bar, walks forward, backward & sideways on balance beam. We instruct on basic fundamental positions: pike, tuck & straddle. We crawl through tunnels, slide down inclines, roll over balls, jump on stars and more. Classes are 30 minutes in duration--the recommended length by the National Assoc. for Sport and Physical Education for toddler structured physical activities. |
Creative Movement: Class begins with 8-10 minutes of cardiovascular exercise through the use of creative movement. We run, skip, gallop, hop, throw, bounce & catch balls of all sizes, dance with beanie babies, jumping jacks, sit ups, push ups and more! Our goal is to build your child's endurance and cardiovascular health.
Kid Stretch:
A few moments spent doing multiple mat positions that develop flexibility and teach your child to stretch their muscles before any physical activity.
Gymnastics:
We teach children according to their ability. In tumbling our goal for this age is to develop upper body strength, kinesthetic awareness, an understanding of falling techniques and landing positions. We use various drills that require them to go upside down, tuck, roll, turn, jump, go backwards, go down inclines, and more. All elements are progressive, leading to additional skills. On bar we build upper body strength by swinging in tuck, pike, straddle and straight body positions. Balance beam is challenging and requires concentration to walk forward, backward, sideways, pivot turn, step over a star and more. Vaulting trains the lower body in running, jumping and moving up and off. We teach all our elements through fun activities and constant emphasis to sustain movement on a gymnastic circuit. All classes run 30 minutes in length. Our progress reports and awards measure success and re-inforce self-confidence. |
The emphasis of our preschool program is to heighten body awareness & a healthy self-image, improve listening & social skills, to use movement as a means of creative expression & the early development of life-long fitness habits.
